Ingrid Kantola. (aka: The Assassin, Ginger, My Better Half)

By this point, most of the CF World knows Ingrid’s story. She came to Austin – got sick – had open-heart surgery – recovered – placed in the top six women 3 years in a row at the South Central Regionals in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Instant Badass, right?

What people don’t know is how long and arduous her road to recovery really was – how dedicated Ingrid is – and how much time, energy and emotion she puts into her training. She had good days and bad days like anyone else, but she always has the mind to stay the course and keep the bigger picture in view.

Ingrid is what I would call a “natural athlete”. A “natural athlete” is one that can watch a movement one or maybe two times, try it once or twice… and then NAIL IT. She has a gift for movement and a will to win that is uncommon even at the highest levels of sport. I have coached Ingrid on and off since August of 2010, and I can tell you that over the past 4 years she has made monumental gains in both her strength (she now jerks 225#) and her fitness. She is without a doubt one of the best overall female CrossFitters in the South Central Region, and she is without a doubt a huge contributing factor to our success this year. Ingrid has few if any weaknesses and tends to perform her best when the stakes are the highest. She has worked tirelessly to improve her weakness and never lets a day go by without thinking about what she can do better to improve herself.

And all this while managing CF Central DownTown and directing the Fittest Games.

She is talented, sassy and confident — a deadly combination when you add in her “win everything” mentality. I am extremely proud of Ingrid for all of her accomplishments over the past 4 years, but I am especially proud and honored to be able to coach her this year on Team Central. It has been a dream of Ingrid’s to compete on the biggest stage in CrossFit since she began her CF journey in Los Angeles, and now she gets to live out that dream. I am so very happy for her.

Thank you Ingrid: for being an awesome athlete, an awesome teammate and the best future wife any man could ask for.

I love you – kill it next week!
