“If you’re going to try, go all the way. Otherwise, don’t even start. This could mean losing girlfriends, wives, relatives and maybe even your mind. It could mean not eating for three or four days. It could mean freezing on a park bench. It could mean jail. It could mean derision. It could mean mockery–isolation. Isolation is the gift. All the others are a test of your endurance, of how much you really want to do it. And, you’ll do it, despite rejection and the worst odds. And it will be better than anything else you can imagine. If you’re going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It’s the only good fight there is.”
-Charles Bukowski, Factotum
The only constant in life is change. Change is inevitable. Change is good.
With that in mind, I announce my resignation from CrossFit Central and The Fittest Games.
Five years ago this month, I officially began shadowing at a small garage on Burnet Road in Austin, TX. That gym was CrossFit Central. I was enamored by the people, by the place and by the community. The people there became my friends and eventually my family.
I am proud of my time with Central and am grateful for the opportunity to have learned and coached under and around some of the best in the business. My hope is that we will continue to support each other in the future.
I wish nothing but the best for the Double C’s as a company and for the people behind the C’s. I can say without hesitation or doubt that I have given 100% of my heart, soul, sweat, blood and tears for that gym and community. If I could, I wouldn’t change a thing.
Over time, people grow and change. Situations and circumstances change. Worldviews change. Movement is the natural course of life, and dreams are meant to be pursued.
I am excited about what the future holds and the opportunities that lay ahead. I know that no matter what, my friends and family will be there to support me. For that I am blessed. I will continue to learn, to teach, to coach and to develop people and communities that are more than clients and athletes.
Full heart, clear eyes, steady hands.
See you soon.
