Soh herze de irth… ROUND.

The 2015 Games season is upon us. With it, like every year, there are changes. Some changes will affect us more than others, but without a doubt this will be the most competitive and exciting Games season yet.

What are the changes?

The Open will remain the Open. You will all work as individuals within the context of the WODs that come out weekly, but “teamwork” in the sense of working as a GYM will be more important than ever. This year, the Open carry more weight and determine more with regards to what individuals and teams make it to the next phase: Regionals.

There will be a scaled division to allow more people to participate at a level that is appropriate for them. There will be a teen division.

What can we expect from the open?

I expect the workouts to be more challenging (read: separating) than in previous years. HQ will want to send the best of the best individuals and teams to regionals. Individuals will have to be strong, skillful and highly capable to handle volume and intensity.

This year, region will be combined. Although we will still compete as the “South Central Region” in the Open to determine who will advance to Regionals, our “Super Regional” will now consist of the following combined regions:

South Central, South West and Latin America. This new “Super Region” has been dubbed the “South Regional”.

In the past, 48 individuals and 30 teams were invited to Regionals. This year in the South Regional, 15 teams will be invited from the South West and South Central and 10 teams will be invited from Latin America.

For individuals, there will be 20 men and women from the US regions and 10 men and women from Latin America.

At our Super Regional, there will be 50 men, 50 women and 40 teams.

Who will go to the Games this year?

The top 5 men, 5 women and 5 teams from our region.

What do you need to do?

Well, something. Keep training. Keep working. Continue to set your goals and work towards achieving them. I and the gym are here to help you achieve those goals and to make it as deep into the season as possible.

We have an incredible gym and some very capable athletes. Our goals are lofty this year, and we will need all the love and support possible to make them a reality. But at its core, the Open – and CrossFit – are for everyone. It will be a celebration and expression of our passion, our commitment and our love for this thing we have all found called CrossFit.

Sleep well tonight and every night. You’ll need it.
