“I always felt that my greatest asset was not my physical ability, it was my mental ability.” -Bruce Jenner
One of the lessons reinforced for us at the 2015 CrossFit Games is the concept of:
Thoughts –> Words –> Actions –> Character –> Destiny
Your destiny, in other words what you are capable of attaining, is determined by your character, which is formed by your actions, which are molded by your words, which are grown with your thoughts. We had some physical holes in our game this year, but none as influential as the holes in our collective mental game. The mental game is something that must be developed over time. Some people grow up with it and begin to cultivate it from a young age. Others must pick it up later on in life. Regardless, the best athletes and teams have it.
For this team to reach their next level, they will need to grow into themselves and develop a collective attitude of winning. One that does not care abut the task at hand; that only finds out how to dominate it. The pieces and potential are there – now they will have to reach deep into themselves, stare their fear and doubt in the face and tell them to fuck off. This team and its athletes are bound to do great things. They will continue to sharpen themselves against each other and against the competition that comes their way.
Thoughts will influence the individual. Words will influence the group.
