“Alas, Siddhartha, I see you suffering, but you’re suffering a pain at which one would like to laugh, at which you’ll soon laugh for yourself.”
― Hermann Hesse, Siddhartha
Mino Solomon is a great man, athlete, friend, and brother to all of us. He is one of the hardest working, most positive men you will ever meet, and though he is a giant of a man, his heart is unfathomably bigger. He is a blessing to our gym, and he represents the soul and ethos of everything we strive to be.
I don’t ask for things often, if ever, but today I am asking for your support. We all need help at some point in our lives, and today, one of our own needs that help. Humbly, I invite you: my friends, family, athletes and acquaintances to join us in raising up one of our very best in a way that only we can.
If you are in Austin this Sunday, please join us at CrossFit Jääkarhu as we host #brickbybrick, a fundraiser for Mino. We will all put in one hour for Mino, running, rowing, burpeeing and lifting as we raise awareness around his situation and raise funds for his continued recovery. A little more about Mino:
“On Sept. 5, Mino Solomon was involved in a weightlifting accident while visiting Chicago. This accident broke Mino’s vertebrae and caused immediate loss of sensation and movement from the waist down. Mino underwent emergency surgery to fuse and stabilize his spine. The surgery was successful and fused four vertebrae together. He has since progressed through therapy in Chicago and was upgraded to an incomplete spinal injury, with additional feeling and function returning below the injury site.
He has finally returned to Austin this week, with his girlfriend Sharon Blecker at his side, and reuniting with his dog Winston. Though the road ahead is still long and strenuous, we have faith that Mino’s determination and positive attitude will help him reach his ultimate goal – walking, running and being upright and active again!
I can’t begin to understand what Mino is going through, but what I can do is help him prepare for the financial burden. It is with this goal in mind that I am reaching out to you for your support. We anticipate that Mino will need significant finances over the next few years to aid him on his road to recovery. House and automobile modifications, outpatient physical and psychological therapy, ongoing medical expenses, and existing out of pocket expenses are just a few of the things that this sum will help to cover.”
Everyone is welcome to come to our fundraising event at CrossFit Jaakarhu on Sunday November 8th from 12-3!
If you cannot attend and would like to help out, you can donate to Mino’s YouCaring page,
